Introducing Hardware Kevin
Working in a small town hardware store since I was 15 (20+ years) I have developed a reputation for hardware based ventures. Hence the moniker Hardware Kevin, a little nod to small town roots. Music has always been a part of me. I’m a self-taught musician with over 25 years of experience, with a growing passion for performing acoustic cover songs. For me, music isn’t just about playing the notes; it’s about telling stories through the strings of my guitar. I’ve spent countless hours honing my skills on various string instruments—guitar, bass, mandolin, and even a bit of banjo. Each one has its own voice, and I love exploring how different tones and textures can shape a song, weaving layers of music that enhance the overall sound. When it comes to my acoustic covers, I don't hold anything back—my voice is raw, unfiltered, and full of emotion, and I perform a wide array of artists and genres. From the timeless country stories of Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings to the modern pop sensibilities of Taylor Swift, the haunting beauty of Sinead O'Connor, or the raw emotion of Zach Bryan, I love layering my interpretations through different styles. Sometimes, I’ll strip a song down to its simplest acoustic form, letting the lyrics and melodies speak for themselves. Other times, I’ll experiment with fingerpicking, looping, or adding harmonies, layering new textures to make each cover feel unique. I’ve had the pleasure of performing in a variety of settings, from corporate events to patio gigs, private parties, and even yoga classes. I love the versatility of acoustic music and how it can fit the vibe of any occasion. Whether it's creating a relaxed ambiance for a small gathering or bringing energy to a larger event, I’m always excited to share my love of music. For me, every song is a chance to connect with an audience, and I’m always open to any setting where I can bring my sound and energy. In addition to my solo acoustic work, I’ve spent many years as a bass player in several bands, diving into a range of musical genres. Being the bassist in a band teaches me the importance of rhythm, groove, and dynamics—skills that I bring into my solo performances as well. It’s all about finding the right balance, whether I’m supporting a full band or playing a stripped-down version of a song. I’m also a luthier, which means I’ve developed a deep understanding of string instruments from the inside out. Over the years, I’ve repaired, restored, and customized guitars, banjos, and other stringed instruments, bringing them back to life for musicians who rely on them. Being a luthier has not only deepened my appreciation for the craft of instrument-making but also given me a unique perspective on how sound is created and how to bring out the best in each instrument.
